Welcome Home!!
We arrived in Lunenburg at 0900 this morning to a crowd of 20 people or so welcoming us home. I was very pleased to see my mum and sister in law on the wharf there to welcome us. Even after the short trips it is always great to have a family hug when you arrive home! We managed to carry a bit of sail to the wharf which makes for great advertising for the Tall Ships Lunenburg event.
As you may know the Halifax parade of sail was yesterday and by all accounts was very successful. We managed to be where and when we should have been and despite a close passing with Sagres I was happy with the outcome. Lots of people out to see the ships, lots of enthusiasm in the crowd. My best memory is of the return salute at the reviewing stand when my crew all fell over like they had been shot! Perfect!!
After the parade and picking our way through the enthusiastic spectator fleet we passed Chebucto head and shut down the engines. We managed to sail until 10 pm or so and then I got frustrated with the wind shifts and my ability to see our anchorage but not get there. We dropped the anchor at midnight or so. Leaving the main sail up to take down after we were secured.
I called all hands for 0700 this morning and we again heaved up the anchor from our Rose Bay sanctuary and managed to follow some esteemed guests into Lunenburg. Here with us are Caledonia, Unicorn, Peers Fancy, Virginia, Harvey Gamage and Spirit of Massachusetts. All are fantastic vessels with interesting and diverse programs. Some of the ship will be open for viewing over the next couple of days. So please drop by the Fisheries Museum to see what the activities are. I'm sure there will lots of fun for old and young alike.
Tomorrow morning National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson will be joining us to take a few photos.
You can find some more info about him at http://photography.nationalgeographic.com/photography/photographers/photographer-jim-richardson.html.
I'll try to find out where and when he is going to publish his photos and let you know.
That's all for now,
Best regards,
Phil Watson
