Good Morning All,
It is a rainy, wet and cold day here in Lunenburg. I can here the odd rumble of thunder as the worst of today's weather passes up the coast. Sophie the second mate has been briefing the crew on safety during possible thunder storms and making sure everybody is wearing their wet gear. Although this seems like a common sense issue she still has to watch and make sure the crew are not getting cold and wet.
Being on a ship or any vessel in the rain is a unique experience as your living space is immediately cut in half. You can no longer be on deck without being dressed properly and below decks seems closed and somewhat claustrophobic even though absolutely nothing has changed.
The past few days have been an interesting mix aboard the vessel. We had a couple of days to catch up on all the small things that were missed during spring refit. These are little jobs that would usually be done "on the road" as we traveled but as we are not leaving Lunenburg until next week we had a couple of days built into the schedule to sort out the job list.
We have begun our summer sailing schedule and if you are planning on visiting the ship you can book tickets on line or call the museum for more information. Also If you are planning on visiting Nova Scotia there are lots of events going on, for example the Atlantic Theatre Festival is in full swing in Wolfville. You can find more information at http://www.destination-ns.com or call the provincial help line 1-800-565-0000.
