Good Afternoon,

I have just been reading through my first two logs from last year and I see that the weather was very much the same as it was this year. Snow, rain, slush and mud. Ahhh, the joys of spring in Nova Scotia. I had a message from an alumnus in Victoria several weeks ago and he was mentioning the flowers were up and blooming. It will follow here soon enough. One day we will turn around and the trees will be green and the grass will need cutting.

The crew, along with the mates, are in the rigging shed this week. All our blocks (pulleys) will be taken apart and cleaned, inspected and greased. They will then be sanded given three coats of varnish. This usually takes four or five days. This is a great job for new crew as they are stationary while they work so they can all get to know each other. The experienced hands tell stories of last year or other ships, the new hands sit and marvel at the world that is unfolding in front of them. It’s neat to watch and remember my first year.
