Nova Scotia's Bluenose II has the world's largest working mainsail

Bluenose II is the well-loved replica of the famous Lunenburg icon, the Original Bluenose. Both ships were built by many of the same shipwrights. Both were launched from the Smith and Rhuland Shipyard in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. The elder on March 26, 1921, Bluenose II on July 24, 1963.

Bluenose II is operated by the Lunenburg Marine Museum Society on behalf of the Province of Nova Scotia. Established in 1972, members of this locally-based, non-profit society represent a wide range of marine and business experience.

Their dedicated service to the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic which they also operate, and Bluenose II is well-matched with their knowledge of vessel maintenance, engineering, fabrication, retail and accounting. Many members have long-standing family roots in various aspects of our maritime heritage.
